Hi everyone hope you are having a wonderful weekend it has been pretty here but a little chilly. I'm sharing pictures that I took Thursday while I was locked in Hunter Army Base. I was the next car in line to get out and they locked all the gates... and they stayed locked for over an hour.. There was horns blowing and lots of impatience folks wondering around.

but not me I parked under the Oaks and started taking pictures

the sun came and went along with a light breeze

and I watched it all from the drivers seat ~ top left shot out the passengers window, top right shot out the windshield and the bottom is out the drivers window.. Thank the lord I had my camera with me or I might have been honking too ..lol I'm joining Miss Karen for Sunlit Sunday at her blog My Little Home and Garden come on and join us..

as much as I was loving them here... I'm loving them even more now.. let's just say they don't look like this now.. fingers crossed I can finish them for her this weekend.

I really need my own little paint palace instead of hubby's garage and carport ..

The Honeybells are here... and honey they are yummy...

do you see my sweet little chickens salt and pepper shakers.. aren't they cute.. Thank you Miss April I love them..

The best part of January is when the Honeybell's hit town if you are in the Savannah area Polk's Plus in Pooler has some but you better hurry or they will be gone ... and make sure you have a towel handy to catch all that sweet juice that will be running down your chin..

I know this to be true I have been hoarding them for years. They are only available for a few weeks in January into the first of February so I buy, eat and hide all that I can.

and while I was putting my honeybells in a bowl I realized I never showed off my Christmas present from my hubby.. I have been wanting a cabinet for years in this corner of my kitchen but I could not decide if I wanted it to be a "Corner Cabinet" or not. So any who I see a cute kitchen on Pinterest set up like mine, decision made, hubby whips it up, I paint it up and in the house it goes.

and I love it... it doesn't look streaky in person. I did a white primer first to cover the wood then a coat of white opps paint I really thought I wanted it to be white but after I finished it I knew it had to be red.. I had ordered a sample pot of each Annie Sloan's Emperor's Silk and Primer red one seemed to dark the other to red so I mixed them together and got what I was looking for.

Oh pretty clock. This was my Christmas present to myself .. yes I'm one of those.... bought one for my mother in law and one for myself... and we both love it.. I need a little something between the clock and cabinet top ... sign, picture....

It's nice and big with lots of room to hold all the good stuff.. OK I'm through showing off think I will grab a honeybell and head over to LaurieAnna's Vintage Home even though I'm late for Farmhouse Friday.. if you haven't visited LaurieAnna's blog you must it is wonderful. If you have picked up the Spring addition of Romantic Country magazine then you have already been ohhh and ahhhhing over her.. so come on and join me

My new thrifty Love

isn't she lovely !!! Beth and I took off a couple of weeks ago to Hilton Head Island with a plan to hit every thrift store we could find. It took us almost 8 hours but we got to plunder through them all.. It was one of those days where we really didn't find much but what we did find was perfect.. She picked up a beautiful handmade wrought iron tiered plant stand that was fabulous and I found this adorable little chandelier for $15

she looked a little rough but once she got a bath and all the electrical parts out she was perfect.. I am using tea light candles where the wiring was.

I also found this large wire tray for $4.00 that I filled with shells and in the top of the tray is an old green quart jar that I filled with small shells and a candle

and together on the back porch they are beautiful with my Annie Sloan Antibes Green chairs and my own mix of a few of her paint colors, table.

and now that I have brought up that awesome Annie Sloan paint again... Here is a piece that I picked up awhile back that was an awful blond color. I stained and waxed the top and again a mix of Annie's colors for the base. Some new knobs and poof she's pretty...

and then there was these hideous I mean what fool woman painted those chairs pink with a coral colored wall behind them. ME!! yep I started messing with Annie's Scandinavian Pink which is a beautiful color but I wanted it just a tad bit lighter and that pink is what I ended up with..

I had been hearing about Coco and knew it was just what I needed to fix this mess.. I have not waxed any of the Coco pieces yet but I will. This is by far my favorite of all the colors I have tried. I think it would work in any setting..

We still have to get the floor finished on the porch but it's coming along.. Oh wait that rug above was one of my thrifty finds from before Christmas it is a soft natural wool 12' x 15' in perfect condition that I paid $50 for there was 2 of them at that sale and I am still kicking myself for not buying both..

and what the heck are these you ask ?? These are my mothers end tables and there is a matching coffee table woohoo I know ya'll all want these... They are over 50 years old and have had a gazillion different paint jobs by Miss Lois. I finally talked her into letting me bring them home and redoing them for her. I am having so much fun with these and can't wait to show them off ..

On a different note if you are like me and leave you computer on when you are not home PLEASE be careful.. Last week I walked into our home to what smelled like burnt bacon and a loud pop. When I reached the living room my computer monitor was boiling smoke and hot as fire. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if I had not walked in when I did.. So Please, Please be careful ..... I have spent the last week trying out new monitors 17" to small ~ 23" to big ~ 20" just right ... Everything looks so different. It is taking some time to get used to but I'm loving it. Everyone's blogs, words & pictures are so much more crisp and prettier now... and with that being said I'm off to play at House of Grace for Twice Owned Tuesday and Coastal Charm for Nifty Thrifty Tuesday come on and join me there is always something fabulous to see..

it's Flaunt your flowers Friday over at Tootsie Time

I don't have much to flaunt but I didn't want to miss the first garden party of the new year.. I took these new years day. We have since gone into the 20's for a few nights so everything looks yucky now..

Lady Bankus Roses in January might mean none in March and April

my cute new mud boggers from Western Chief they have a rooster weather vane design on them. I wore these out shopping the week after Christmas it was a rainy nasty day and the hubby had been teasing me about them so I wore them to embarrass him. We were in Chick-fil-A and the cutest little girl who had a pair of pink ones sat down on the floor and started taking her boots off. I smiled at her and told her how much I liked her boots, her mother was steady telling her to put her shoes back on ... She handed me her boots then started rubbing mine...lol. I was cracking up, her mom told her to put hers back on that I was not going to trade her. Then her mom told me that she and her cousins trade shoes every time they are together..lol Her whole body could have fit in one of mine.

Tea olives, verbena's, lantana's, salvia's, perpetual marigold that finally started blooming and one little Cassia bloom. yeah I know not much.. but the boots are worth flaunting, right! OK come on and follow me to Tootsie Time and lets see if we can find some real flowers being flaunted.

New Years Day on Tybee Island

I promised pictures of all the fun so here's a few.. OK here's a bunch. I wanted to share the entire 200 or so...

The morning started out quite and beautiful... one lonely little tutu

a few kids tossing footballs, a few kites

a man in mix matched clothes and a lampshade on his head

and this sweet family. The little girls were telling daddy how to pose while mom giggled and took pictures, and of course daddy had to show off for all of his girls..

more tutu's arrived as well as Mr. Cheesehead, polar bear family & purple hair man . A lady with 45's ( records for those to young to know what I'm talking about ) attached to her and Guinness World Record buttons.. I don't know if she was an official from Guinness or just playing up the world record attempt.

about 11:45 people started being counted, now I have to say at 11:00 I truly did not think there was enough people to break the original record of like 546 people but all of a sudden there was people everywhere..

including yellow man, Alice and wonderland characters, another polar bear and a group we never did figure out what they were with white tails and head bands ?

The pier was packed, the crosswalk was packed and the part of the beach that was roped off to hold those that were participating in the record attempted was packed..

Swim caps everywhere... turns out we not only broke the old record we crushed it.. Over 2000 caps were handed out.. For 10 minutes over 2000 people wearing swimming caps laughed, clapped and cheered and they now get to say they helped break a Guinness World Record as the most people gathered together wearing swimming caps ..lol

and as the trumpet blew 12 o'clock people with and without caps ran, jumped or tip toed into the Atlantic... love the couple hugging she looks so happy..

others continued to play in the surf.. The lady on the left in the blue is very pleased with herself. You go you brave, brave lady..

there was dancing

and lots and lots of happy people everywhere

and then there was those of us that choose to just stand back and enjoy watching.. Over 4000 people showed up for the plunge it just keeps getting bigger and bigger.. if you would like to see a little video of the event you can check it out here on Mermaid Cottages blog it really shows just how many people there was.. It was a fun day we rode the bike down and enjoyed all the sunshine...

Ahhh finally a little peace and quite

The babies sure enjoyed the Christmas tree, they broke many limbs but it stayed upright which really surprised us, everyday we just knew it was coming down .. time I got it cleaned up and moved their tree house back into the window they both climbed up and went to sleep...now to get the rest of this place cleaned up so I can get back to painting. Before Christmas I got in Annie Sloans new Coco paint and it is yummy it looks like old driftwood to me.. so if I refer to it as driftwood please excuse me but that is what I named it time I opened the can.. I started painting the back porch furniture before the holiday's and have been chomping at the bit to get back to it.. I also got a sample jar of Emperor's Silk and Primer Red to see which one I would like to paint my Christmas gift from the hubby which I will be sharing soon..

Hope everyone had a great New Years we had a ball at Tybee yesterday we broke the record by a long shot. The weather was perfect it was in the 70's I'll share some pictures of all the fun Wednesday.. Oh today's high 50's then into the 20's burrrrrrrrrr.. a 40 degree drop in less than 24 hours ..
Oh well it is January isn't it..lol

T he Polar Bear Plunge on Tybee Island is where you will find us celebrating the New Year. We are not doing the plunge cause I just ain't that crazy yet.. but we sure do enjoy watching.

nope this isn't us..
I took this a couple of years ago. It was freezing that year.. This year all registrants get to participate in a Guinness World Records® Official Attempt to break the record for the “Largest Gathering of People Wearing Swim Caps,” previously set in Japan. The event proceeds benefit the restoration of the Tybee Post Theater.. It is going into the 70's... What a beautiful way to start the New Year in the sunshine on Tybee Island ...You can see some of 2011 zaniness here Happy 2011 ya'll

Have the happiest of new years... My hoppin john, collards and pork loin are cooked and ready for tomorrow and I have put my silver out to greet the new year's dew so here's hoping some of that new year's magic lands on this household and on each of you.. hugs from Savannah, Cherry

Letting go .. While hanging on..

As I sit quietly watching the candle flicker my mind wonders back through the many wonderful Christmases as a child. When it was just my parents, my older brother, myself and my little sister Cricket. To a time when we didn't have much but we didn't know it.. We had each other, we had love and we had daddy's homemade goodies. Cakes, pies, cinnamon rolls that would take forever to rise... Sometimes it would be midnight and we would be eating something yummy and warm that daddy just decided to whip up..

We have just passed the one year anniversary of my fathers death and my how I miss that man and his good cooking.. I miss those afternoons when he would show up at our house with anything from a coconut cream pie to a plate full of cream puffs, or a slab of ribs that melted in your mouth and the best Brunswick stew ever. Daddy had one special cake that the recipe had been passed down for generations through my mother's family. He worked at that cake till he had it perfect. The only time he baked this cake was at Christmas which made it all the more special. It was made with a million of the greasy little pecans which had to be fresh, just picked up from the ground Georgia pecan's, butter, lots of butter, flour, sugar and something that no one knows but him. He would say the little pecans was what made it so good. Even when we lived in other states if we couldn't get home to Georgia for Thanksgiving he would have momma's sister mail the pecans to us. My brother would take his piece to his room and hide it when we were kids .. I later found out he did the same thing as a grown man, hiding it from his kids ... Yes it was that good .. As our family grew daddy started making more and more cakes last year he surprised all of us by making each family their very own cake. He made 11 or 12 cakes last year and proudly handed them out to all of us.. Little did we know these would be the last cakes he would bake and Christmas dinner would be the last meal we would share together.

Daddy died that Christmas day... I came home from the hospital that night and wrapped my cake up and put it in the bottom of my freezer. Through out the past year I have thought about the cake and even though I was worried it would go bad if it was kept to long I could not bring myself to pull it out... till Christmas eve ~ as my hands unwrapped the foil my daddy had wrapped around this cake I could feel all the love and pride that he put into it. As I cut that first slice I had a flood of sweet memories wash over me. As I tasted daddy's cake knowing it would be the last time I would ever taste this wonderful gift, I knew my daddy was right here with me.

For the past two years I have tried to be everything to those that needed me. I was there for my parents, his children and wife when my brother passed. I was there for my husband when his father passed and of course I have been there for momma and my little sister Cricket since daddy passed.. I took care of everyone, but me. I forgot, I forgot to take care of me, I forgot to allow myself to breathe, to cry, to be loved by others, to grieve.

My beautiful nieces decided we should send balloons to heaven in honor of my brother and my father while we were all together for Christmas. As I watched my family, momma and my little sister Cricket gather together to send the balloons with words of love attached to heaven... My heart felt heavy it had been a hard day something inside me realized the finality of it all. Without me even realizing it my mind had set a timeline. Something about reaching that one year mark made it official.. Daddy isn't coming home... Daddy will never bake me another cake.

we all watched as the balloons started rising some joked and laughed others worried they would get tangled in the pines that daddy fussed about every fall when he had to rake.

The balloons moved into a clearing and went straight up...

It was a beautiful sight to see those balloons lift into the clear blue sky... The tears came ... Slowly at first as I watched the balloons go up.

The tears kept coming ... The closer the balloons reached heaven the harder my tears fell.

But as I uploaded these pictures and saw the expressions on the faces of my beautiful family, my mother, my little sister and all our babies I felt a tug on my heart, I felt a warmth around me, I felt love. I realized that even though daddy and my big brother are no longer here with us they left us with the most beautiful gift of all ... a loving family, a legacy to pass onto these little ones and so many wonderful memories... So while I have to let go, I know I still have so much to hang onto.. and hanging on I will ..

The cake is almost gone, my heart is lighter and opening up a little more with each passing day.. They say time heals all wounds, but I say only if you allow it... I'm ready to allow myself to cry, laugh and love again ... I'm ready to be me again and what better timing than a brand new year!

The rest of the beautiful Isle of Hope Christmas and the home of Noel and Ruthie Wright

The Wright home ~ Thought to be the second home built on the Isle of Hope. The Wright family have lived in the home for 67 years which was built in 1848. Beth and I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Wright one Sunday morning. She was full of wonderful information about the history of Isle of hope, so when we saw that her home was on the tour we got very excited.. Mrs. Wright grew up in the home next door. She and Mr. Wright have been sweethearts all of their lives.

while we were standing in the kitchen 5 deer where in the back yard waiting on supper..lol

beautiful antiques that have been passed down from both of their families

the fireplace screen was painted by a local artist of the Wright home in the spring when all of the azalea's are in bloom

this hallway was filled with wonderful pictures .... One wall was Mr. Wright's family, one was Mrs. Wright's family and then one of their family including their beautiful wedding pictures.. This was my favorite part of the house I love looking at old photo's.

and how about the red tub! Awesome right ..... loved the walls and all the space

When Beth and I walked up to this home we started squealing. The chanty's are gone but oh how pretty is this..

This home wasn't on the tour but if it ever is you may never get me out of it .. as pretty as they decorate for the holiday's I'm betting the interior of this home is awesome.

Next up is a funky little cottage that was built in 1948 and is now the home of Marcus and Sarah Kenney. The home was redesigned by the Kenney’s in 2007.

Marcus is an internationally acclaimed artist. His works have been recognized at some of the leading museums and galleries throughout the world. You have to checkout his web site to see all the different types of mediums he works in. It is fascinating ~ Marcus Kenney .

Their bathroom was so cute.. Love the vintage vibe of the entire house.

The back yard had a couple of laser lights pointing up into the trees, it looked like a bazillion fire flies. I could have laid flat on my backside watching the lights twinkle all night .. This funky cottage was so much fun.. Can you believe it is 5 days till Christmas and yes I have finally done a little decorating..

"An Isle of Hope Christmas"

Hey ya'll, like everyone else I have been busy busy... only I haven't been busy with decorating, baking or shopping. I have been busy painting and helping build momma a greenhouse. The weather here has been so nice, which makes it kinda hard to get into the Christmas decorating mood. Maybe I will get some Christmas pretties going soon, and maybe not... and since I have no pretties of my own to share today how about I share the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Christmas Tour of homes

Beth and I finally got to spend sometime together Sunday. We had a late lunch of crab stew at The Exchange then off to The Byrd Cookie Company for a little sweet treat of some of the best cookies around. Next we headed out to Isle of Hope for the tour and to see if there was still chanty's in the oak... This was by far the best tour that we have ever been on and we have done a bunch ... We can't wait till they do it again which I understand will not be till 2013 Oh no it's biannual ... Oh well make plans to join us cause we will be there.. So without further ado ~

First up is the absolutely beautiful Low Country style cottage of Ken and Kelly Bianco, this home was my favorite it had little porches all around the house and the fencing was covered in confederate jasmine, I bet it feels like they are in heaven when it is in bloom. There is also an attached guest cottage that had a screened in porch as the pass through from the main house's kitchen to the guest suite.

awesome ! love that they kept the flag up ... and how about that lantern, there was one on each end of the front porch.

so inviting and the home owners were so sweet answering questions and allowing us to linger .. I really didn't want to leave this home..

it is a very coastal home in it's decor and the design layout.

and lastly the little screen pass through porch that connects the main house to the guest cottage .. OK shoot me that's it for this beautiful home. I hate to say that I got so caught up in the house and talking that I didn't take pictures in every room but I can promise every room was perfect..

The church was decorated really lovely. The food was fabulous and everyone was kind and friendly.. Thank you to all of those that worked so hard to make mine and Beth's night perfect..

It's time to decorate for Christmas

Which is one of my favorite times of the year.. this year I had decided not to put up a tree in the living room because I knew the little monster kitties that were suppose to be temporary visitors in our home but have become a wonderful part of our family would try to climb it .. but everyone kept saying NO Tree .. you always have a beautiful tree you have to have your tree ... so yesterday I put it up... and

first there was a little kitty meeting around the tree. Our older cat in the middle loves to sleep under the tree so he was very excited to see it going up.

come on now ya'll know my tail is pretty enough to be an ornament..

oh yeah this is great ya'll come on in ...

and so little sister boots follows and finds herself the perfect spot to watch the world go by out the front windows..

and the next thing I knew they were being so cute and still and sweet ahhhhhhh which lasted all of about 3 seconds then they started fighting, the tree started rocking and I started praying.... I just knew any moment it was coming down . It didn't but I'm betting it won't make it through the entire season .. lol. We finished putting the lights on it and as long as the lights are lit one of them is in the tree, unplug and they come out ..lol Needless to say I won't be decorating in my normal fashion this year .. Have you started decorating yet ? Do you need help ? I will send you my furry little helpers as long as you promise to send them back cause they have stolen our hearts.. Hope ya'll all have a wonderful day.

Happy Friday ya'll hope everyone is having a great morning. It's chilly here this morning after having summer temps for the last 2 weeks I am loving it ..

I have been helping Miss Lois and am in awe of how beautiful her flowerbeds still look

even after a quick frost everything is still blooming and showing off

she has started taking things out so she can get her pansies and things planted

the butterflies and and bees are loving her yard also

anyone know what this is ? The best we can figure the seeds came from Parks when we ordered in the spring but since Miss Lois just plants we have no package and I can't find it on their web site. It was huge the plants are at least 3' to 4' tall the flower is 12" to 15" long we saved the seeds and hope that we have lots of these next summer.

Chanty's in the Oak on Isle of Hope

This was my absolute favorite.. There wasn't one or two chanty's in the oak there was 7 or 8

all dressed up in her spanish moss

I don't know if this is just for Halloween or not but I bet at night it is fun to see and I bet it is fabulous to see when you are on the water coming into the marina.

I enjoyed your blog on our 275th celebrations on Isle of Hope, I live here.

I was surprised that you did not have a picture of the Wrights house on the Bluff, it is the second oldest on the island. Many of these homes belong to friends of mine. In December St. Thomas church has a Christmas tour of homes, many on the Bluff will be on the tour. I know the Wrights house is on it, the Wrights house is next to the last one on the Bluff before you get to LaRoche Ave.

Many people enjoyed their day with us, I served on the planning committee.

I did not get to see all of the homes. Being with Miss Lois you run on her time so I am going to do my best to get to this years Christmas tour ..

This is my beautiful niece Shelby who spotted her favorite book and then went gaga when she realized the authors where there. It is a really cute book called Scampering Through Savannah by Renee and Mac Newell, Illustrated by Amie Jacobsen it is about exploring historic Savannah, GA with two rascally raccoons. Showing off all the best tourist spots in the city, the book has been quite a hit. It can be found in many shops and bookstores throughout Savannah, ebay and other online bookstores.

I enjoyed every minute of my day on Isle of Hope and I hope that I was able to share just a little bit of it's charm with each of you. Happy Halloween ya'll I'm off to the dentist ... Who schedules a dentist appointment on Halloween??? if they are dressed up like vampires I'm out of there..lol

Isle of Hope 275 years of Beauty

A couple of weekends ago Isle of Hope had it's 275th Anniversary they honored the island with a parade and local artist selling their work at the marina. If you would like to see some beautiful local paintings of coastal Savannah checkout Irene Sainz Mayo her work is fabulous. There was lots of wonderful music and a whole lot of good old fashion fellowship. The best part of the day to me was the history they shared about some of the beautiful homes on the bluff. It is such a special place I thought I would share it with each of you. So come on back for the rest of the week and see some of the wonderful homes and views of this bluff community.

It was a perfect October day in Savannah and I sure enjoyed spending the day with Miss Lois, my little sis, her daughters and her granddaughter Miss Lexie... if only I had thought to have someone take our picture.. It's Outdoor Wednesday over at Miss Susan's A Southern Daydreamer Won't cha come join the fun... bet there is lots of pumpkins being shown off today..

The Majestic Oak

This beauty is like none other. Dripping in Spanish Moss and Resurrection Fern. Its boughs stretch out over a hundred feet they touch the ground only to rise back up again.

It is indeed a Majestic wonder

Believed to be the oldest oak in Georgia

It is located in the Majestic Oaks subdivision off of Isle of Hope

It was measured in 2009 ~
Circumference ~ Girth 27’ 8” measured at 4′ from the ground.. Longest distance of branches from tip to tip ~ 165’ 7”.. Approximate age 300 ~ 400 years

Legend of Spanish Moss

A Spanish soldier fell in love at first sight with an Indian chief's favorite daughter. Though the chieftain forbade the couple to see each other, the Spaniard was too lovestruck to stop meeting the maiden in secret. The father found them out and ordered his braves to tie the Spaniard high up in the top of an ancient oak tree. The Spaniard had only to disavow his love to be freed, but he steadfastly refused. Guards were posted to keep anyone -- the chief's daughter above all -- from giving food or water to the poor Spaniard.

The Spaniard grew weaker and weaker, but he still would not renounce his love for the girl. Near the end, the Chief tried to persuade him once more to stay away from his daughter. The Spaniard answered that not only would he refuse to disavow his love, but that his love would continue to grow even after death. When at last the Spaniard died, the chief kept the body tied up in the tree as a warning to any other would-be suitors.

Before long, the Indians began to notice that the Spaniard's beard continued to grow. The Indian maiden refused ever to take a husband -- unless the Spaniard's beard died and vanished from the tree. As the years went by, the beard only grew stronger and longer, covering trees far from the Indian maiden's village. Legend says that when the Spanish Moss is gone, the Spaniard's love will have finally died with it.

275th Isle of Hope Anniversary

Isle of Hope.. even the name is perfect. My parents bought their first home there. My sister and I were both born while living there and even though I was still very young when we moved from Isle of hope I can remember playing barbies under the massive live oaks and watching my big brother crab off the docks. I also remember a little store that we would walk to for ice cream my uncle would hold me by my heels lower me into the tub style cooler and let me pick whatever flavor I wanted. It was a very special place in the 60's and it still is today. On Saturday they are hosting a big Anniversary bash with lots of great stuff going on all over the island. If you are looking for something to do this Saturday this will be a wonderful family event, and Wormsloe plantation is right there.

There is going to be a parade, vintage cars, walking tours an art show with lots of local artist selling their beautiful works of art ~ caning, pottery, basket making, quilting, including the beautiful piece above by Bellamy Murphy of Isle of hope's bluff which I hope to get my hands on one. There is lots of great events happening this weekend... including the plant sale.

If you are near Statesboro the Georgia Southern Botanical Gardens are having their fall plant sale boo hoo I can't do both... and don't forget the great farmers market if you go to Statesboro.

There is also the pumpkin patch at the Bamboo Farm and Coastal Gardens in Savannah

and if you haven't been to Savannah Secret Gardens lately this weekend would be a great time to go. They are giving hayrides thru the nursery ending at their "Enchanted Graveyard". They have a great selection of mums, unusual Pumpkins and Gourds at great Prices. They will also be selling boiled peanuts, candy apples and cotton candy. Sounds like fall fun to me. I had a blast with my girlfriends this past long weekend and sure hated to put them on planes home.. Weekends go by way to fast even long ones... Miss ya'll already... It has been a rainy week here in Savannah which is good but it's time for it to go away. I'm so ready for some fall weather and another fun weekend.. Have a fun one everyone.

It's Tybee Time

I'm off to Tybee for the rest of the week with my girlfriends from Ohio. The weather is going to be perfect. Fun, sun and girlfriends it doesn't get any better..

heading to the beach reminded me that I had not shared a special gift I received for my birthday .. This old wooden bowl filled with dirty shells has been in my family forever.

I have asked Miss Lois for it at least a million times and she finally let me have it..

over the years things have been added to the bowl and things have disappeared. The bowl has sat on momma & daddy's front porch forever all the children have played in it. I'm sure the flo glow orange coral came out of an aquarium that my brother had. I love the rocks with the bright blue streaks running through them it looks like sapphires..

There is a lot of tiny shells, purple ones, shiny ones, turquoises ones and then there was the antique looking ones with soft browns and blue I think they are my favorite.

and there are these. The ones that I remember as a child the ones that belonged to my grandmother some of these are so smooth they feel like silk. They were always lined up on her front porch. Her home sat facing the inter coastal water ways in Brunswick, Georgia sitting on her porch you could hear and smell the water. We would watch shrimpers come and go from sun up to sun down. I can remember when summer would end and I had to go home I would always sneak one of the shells in my suitcase. Now I finally have what was left.. Maybe I will find something special to add to the bowl while I'm gone..

Weekend fun & finds

It was a beautiful weekend the hubby and I got lots of yard work done. I finished up lots of little things that have been needing my attention for months. Steaks were grilled, wine was consumed, neighbors stopped by for some front porch gabbing and I finally got to go to some yard sales but only cause Miss Beth called and woke me up Saturday morning I may have missed these treasures if not for her..Thank you girlfriend I enjoyed every second of our day together.

Miss Ginger Savannah Granny sorry we missed you we had come and gone before you got there .. I found these great old cast iron bath tub legs at the Botanical Garden yard sale. I am going to use them as bookends.. love the turquoises color on them.. I picked up the picture which I plan to paint over at a church sale along with the tiny little wicker box.

the beautiful shell came from the Chatham County Humane Society Thrift store and the cheese box from a neighborhood sale

A pretty mirror that I added to our entertainment center.

and my favorite or as Beth says my woo ho find of the day is this Vintage Fire King Glass Philbe Sapphire Pie Plate that I paid 25 cents for. It has a few little marks on it but no nicks or chips... love it ! They sell on Ebay from 15 to $30 ~ I done good.. It is finally starting to feel like fall in Savannah which makes me a very happy girl.. I hope each of you had a fun weekend.

What is Pinterest ~ To me it's the best new thing since... well since my Annie Sloan Chalk paint arrived.. it is a great site if you love looking at pictures, finding new recipes, want to be inspired, learn something new.. or if you just want to lose a few hours of time but in a really fun way... To learn how to use the site I suggest you read this great post by The Blog Stylist because it can be a little overwhelming at first. What I love about it is you don't have to be a blogger to use the site and it isn't about promoting one's self. It is truly just a place to save and share all the fabulous stuff you find on the internet. An image bookmarking site without having to store it on your computer. I have almost emptied a folder full of saved pictures off my computer because I can now save all those Going to do one day ideas to my Pinterest boards which means more free space on my computer.. Here's a few things that I have found and loved.

Dragonflies made from old bedpost & ceiling fan blades .. I'm so going to do this.. A pretty Autumn arrangement and an awesome quiche recipe using potatoes instead of pie crust...Which I have already made and loved. I'm not a big fan of crust so this was perfect.

I used lots of veggies in mine. I know the pictures look like it's mostly potatoes and well maybe it had a few too many but it sure was good.. We topped it with chopped tomatoes a little sour cream and salsa and called it supper .. Not to much to flaunt around here after such a hot dry summer but there's a few things to show off. The sage is just starting to bloom

it has been the summer of the morning glories for me lots of really pretty blooms

Agastache ~ salmon & pink ~ 'Acapulco' and white cockscomb which are full of seeds

Fuji waterfall hydrangea which I almost missed blooming because of the heat ..

We are feeling a tiny, tiny little nip in the air in the mornings and I am loving it. My plans for the weekend is work in the yard till I can't move.. Sweet Autumn Clematis

September always brings a wonderful renewed feeling to my soul.. My sweet autumn Clematis has just started blooming. Daddy gave me this last year it was one of his favorites. When it bloomed he would show it off to everyone that stopped by.. I didn't realize till just now that almost every plant my father gave me was white ~ Cherokee Rose, Confederate Jasmine, Cape Jasmine ( Gardenia ) and my Confederate Rose which starts out white then turns a deep pink...

Morning Glories are still going strong

Cockscombs are still beautiful, this one is more of a salmon color. I only had one that came up so I am hoping to save some seeds and yes that is an upside down empty picture frame behind the jar .. and one of our new kittens Tigger.

I haven't a clue what this is. It is a vine that has taken over an entire flowerbed. I truly don't know if it is a weed or if it is something I planted ... any ideas ?

Here's what's left after a very hot & dry summer..

It's time for Cottage Flora Thursday over at Miss Tracie's Fishtail Cottage and Flaunt your Flowers Friday over at Miss Glenda's Tootsie Time so I'm sharing a few things that have made it through this summer but most of my flowers have given up. We were to long without rain and all those long hot days took their toll on me and my flowers.

Jasminum sambac ~ It is occasionally referred to as midnight jasmine due to its flowers opening up during the night. This is one of my favorites. I have it planted right outside the backdoor/porch growing up a trellis. In the evening and first thing in the morning the fragrance is wonderful.

I love my Morning Glories

and this white cockscomb is climbing into my top 10 favorites. It is starting to open up I can't wait to see how big it gets..

Basil's are still going strong the hydrangea's are pooped out. One late blooming daylily is finishing up.

My Zinnia's are drying in the beds

The Brown eyed Susie's ( sorry that's what I call them ) are loving the heat.

and some more pretty morning glories these are Tie Dye's every blossom is different. I'm not sure how it happened but it is the end of July already. Now if I can just make it through August without melting.

My Week 5 of Summer in snapshots 2011

Happy Wednesday ya'll ~ It's time to share some of those summer snapshots from the past week with Miss Amber and friends over at The Starfish Blog and while you are there make sure you checkout Amber's amazing jewelery line I would so wear any and every piece she has design ..

Wednesday morning trying to start the morning out being good.. Have ya'll tried Silk's Pure Almond DARK CHOCOLATE yet? If you haven't run to the store and get ya some it is awesome ... My smoothie was 1/2 of a banana, a few frozen strawberries, plain fat free greek yogurt and Dk. chocolate Silk all blended together then topped with ground Flax seeds .. yummmmy this tasted just like the bottom of a banana split. You know what I'm talking about, when everything has melted together and you have the bowl turned up trying to suck down the very last drop.. yeah it's that good..lol

This past week has been nice and quite even had a little time to do a couple little projects. Like putting together a simple wreath using an old grape vine and pieces of driftwood that I picked up last week while at Tybee.

Friday I put together some different flavors of Simple syrup.~ Lemon verbena, Colonial mint, peach, basil then I made ice cubes out of it. I love having these in the freezer I add them to unsweet iced tea, hot teas, lemon aid and mixed drinks.

Saturday afternoon... I grabbed the newest Dorothea Benton Frank book Folly Beach my towel a glass of lemon aid with a few peach cubes & a splash of vodka and in my pool chair I floated the afternoon away.. If you have never read one of Dot Frank's book pick up Sullivans Island while you are out getting the dk. chocolate milk you will love it..

Monday a late afternoon ride on the bike lead us to a dock where we watched people crabbing and fishing.

Saturday Farmers Market in Statesboro, Ga

isn't the lady with the laundry basket on wheels adorable. She is a local and comes to the market often so she put the basket together to make it easier to get everything she wanted. She had a watermelon in the bottom and was on her way to filling the rest of it with fresh goodies. If you are anywhere near Statesboro and haven't checked out your local farmers market you are missing out on a true gem.. I was in awe and wish I lived close enough to go every Saturday morning. Everyone is super friendly, they have live entertainment, BBQ grills pouring out the most wonderful smells and lots of great fruits and veggies to sample.

There is several Organic farmers there like Walkers Organic Farms which have the sweetest Canary melons I have ever tasted and the coolest looking carrots.

and then my favorite booth of all was Miss Jill of Petal Pusher Farms from Vidalia, Georgia not only was her Zinnia's some of the prettiest I had ever seen she was such a sweetheart telling me all about her planting 3 acres of zinnia's.... Can you image how beautiful it would be to see 3 acres of zinnia's every day... I hate that I waited to take pictures of her booth it was so full when I first got to the market. It was glowing with every color imaginable. Within the hour that I was at the market she sold almost everything.. I had to have one of her really cute Tee shirts.

The Tee says ~ " Sharing a piece of God's beauty ... " Perfect

There is a whole lot more to this market ~ A Dairy farmer, local honey, a cattle farmer, organic eggs, handmade crafts a wonderful local baker who had an 8 ft table full of goodies one minute and the next it was wiped out .. I was so busy shopping that I didn't take many pictures. Go early and buy what you want when you see it or it will be gone .

Also Walker Organic Farms is at the Forsyth park farmers market in downtown Savannah on Saturday morning so if you can't make it to Statesboro head on downtown...
you have to try the Canary melon.

My Week 4 of Summer in snapshots 2011

Happy Wednesday ya'll ~ It's time to share some of those summer snapshots from the past week.. I love doing this. I have enjoyed seeing everyone's pictures and hearing how they are spending the summer. This past week was really nice the humidity was down which made it more enjoyable to be outside.

Wednesday I got a nice surprise my Guild Grape ( the gold one ) has shown back up. I planted my little window box with the gold & the blue Torenia and almost immediately the gold died. I love the little wishbone in the center of the flower... makes me want to pull it apart and make lots of wishes..lol

This was what the entire day was like on Thursday. Everything I touched went to crap! This is what it looks like when you drop the sour cream carton upside down .. ugggg .. Thank goodness it was only 1/4 full.

I think this guy has on his fall colors.. He looks like he is ready for some Georgia football !

Saturday I finished up the table (well I might scuff up the legs a little) I used Annie Sloans Scandinavian Pink to start with but it turned out to be to much pink. This table and chairs is being used on the back porch and the walls are painted almost the exact same color as the Scandinavian Pink so I mixed up Versailles and Antibes Green then fell in love. It is a perfect soft green . I'm not finished with the chairs yet and it has done got hot again around here so maybe one day ..

Sunday morning hubby looks out and sees this guy asleep in the bird feeder. I don't remember ever having a kitten get into so many different places to sleep and of course he couldn't figure out how to get down..lol

Monday ahhhhhhh Monday's ... The hubby has decided to take Monday's off for the rest of the summer so we made a pack that we are going to spend them doing whatever we want to do

So to the beach we headed where we did nothing but people watch and splash around a little in the cool saltwater .. then we came home grabbed a few beers, a glass of wine and climbed in the swimming pool .. Monday's = Ahhhh

Tuesday Mr turtle gave me the scare of my life. I was watering tomato's and looked down to see his ugly self looking up at me I couldn't get my bare feet into a pair of shoes quick enough some of those tomatoes were right at my toes and he could have cared less he just kept on chomping..

I tossed him some bell pepper pieces and he worked on them till there was almost nothing left but stem and seeds.. I love having turtles in yard but I truly think they are super uglyyy.. Maddie look aunt Cherry has live turtles too!

My Week 3 of Summer in snapshots 2011

Wednesday ~ I noticed my perpetual Wisteria had started blooming. I love the color of it.

Thursday ~ picked a quart of blueberries from one bush in the back that I would not have noticed if not for the wisteria blooms and boy are they sweet this year.

Friday ~ Newest Southern Living with a bowl of yum ! Canary melon, cantaloupe, blueberries, greek yogurt and Mrs. Burns Lemon Basil. Adding Basil's to melons is my new favorite way to eat them.

Saturday ~ time to start painting again .. Annie Sloans Chalk paint strikes again

Sunday ~ I had been wondering way this plant was flat in the middle !

Monday ~ beach day with some of my nieces, the wee ones and friends .. It was a perfect day on Tybee. Miss Cristle my love you look more like your grandmother everyday.. Beautiful

Tuesday ~ I realized I never showed off my Peaches to Beaches dresser once I finished it. I waxed the drawers and the top only which gave it a two - tone finish the knobs came from World Market which I got on sale 2 for $ 2.99 .. I'm madly in love with it. CD's, movies, remotes, and candles are now hidden inside the drawers. Oh and the paint is of course Annie Sloan and the color is Versailles ...... So there you have it week 3 of our Summer 2011.

Mators, mators and more beautiful mators

My tomatoes have been fantastic this year the best I have ever had. The Giant yellow is awesome it has the best flavor. I can't get enough of these I have eaten more tomato sandwiches this year than I think I ever have and 99% of them were with the Giant yellows. I only shared 2 with Miss Lois .. the Black cherries are fab they taste like little plums to me.. The Black Zebra's did great and made for some really pretty pasta salads..

My plants have been healthy and are still going strong which doesn't normally happen around here with the heat.. I am giving all the glory for this years mators to Farmers Organic Soil Conditioner it is made in Newton, Georgia and this stuff is the bomb... Checkout their website to find it I promise it is awesome stuff...

This was just one afternoon the grapes, Roma's and Black Cherry just keep on coming..

I also did Arkansas Traveler, Box Car Willie, Grapes & Roma II (which is a harder Roma to me in texture) but was great for cooking with.

here's a little something I threw together `

Zucchini, Tomato, Ricotta Baked Frittata ~ say that 3 times really fast

Slice tomatoes sprinkle with 1/4 tsp of salt allow to drain then pat dry / wipe off salt if you are like me and don't do a lot of salt because the cheeses are loaded with salt. I tossed fresh basil on the tomatoes and added it to the egg mixture. I love my basil..

8 large eggs ~ beaten
1/2 cup ricotta cheese
1/2 cup of sour cream

Mix together add next group of ingredients

1/4 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
1 Tbsp chopped fresh basil
1/2 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 herb flavored Feta cheese
1/2 cup shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese

Salute zucchini in a pan with following ingredients

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
a couple pats of butter
thin slices of Vidalia onions
zucchini's washed and sliced into thin rounds ( the amount really doesn't matter I find the more the merrier )

Lay tomatoes in a sprayed casserole dish top with cooked zucchini's and onions then pour in egg mixture and bake in a preheated 375 oven till the center is set this one took about 45 minutes.

You don't have to use all these cheeses I was just using up what I had in the fridge.

As you can see I am not a recipe writer or chef just a girl that enjoys eating and slinging together a meal every now and again. This was a simple supper I added a blopp of sour cream and chopped heirloom tomatoes to mine the hubby added salsa to his. We both really enjoyed it but if you try it and don't .. I so so sorry ..

My Week 2 of Summer in snapshots 2011

For the first time in a long time we had a slow steady all night rain.

and the next morning everything looked so bright and fresh. Aren't my rockers pretty... I mixed Annie Sloans ~ Aubusson Blue and Antibes Green chalk paint till I got just the color I wanted.. Perfect.

This pic is hubby's contribution ~ I was picking tomatoes and when I came back in the house hubby had added the beers, the bacon and had taken pictures..lol yum, yum BLT's with fresh picked tomato's

Saturday was sweet Miss Abbigail's 3rd birthday party it was so much fun getting to play with the babies and to spend time with family & friends. Thank you Kay & Denny for sharing your home with us and thank you to my beautiful niece Jessica for taking pictures while I played. Happy Birthday Abbi aunt Cherry loves you with all her heart..

such is the life !

fresh peaches quickly turned into a cobbler that I ate way to much of... The peaches came from a little community in Bulloch county, GA named Hopeulikit pronounced ( Hope you like it ) ...
So I'm at the Farmers market with Miss Lois and she walks up to a gentleman selling peaches and ask ~ are these peaches from around here ? The gentleman reply's yes ma'am Hopeulikit and Miss Lois says ~
will I ain't never seen a peach I didn't like ! ...
insert .... me and the gentleman in a fit of giggles and Miss Lois looking at us like we have lost our minds.. She meant that thing !! and I'm still giggling.. lol

This is what downtown Savannah looked like yesterday around noon. The hubby and I rode the bike over to Bluffton, S.C. for breakfast ( way cool ) and as we were coming back over the Talmadge bridge the entire city was covered in smoke from all the wildfires it was yucky...

So there you have it week 2 of our Summer 2011.

Over at Miss Glenda's Tootsie Time Blog which means it time to show off what cha got blooming ... so here we go !

My new favorite Ruellia elegans this plant has not stopped blooming or growing

Hidalgo Sage ? I think I was told when I bought this plant that it was Hildalgo Sage but from the little bit of info I can find I don't think so. I have emailed pictures to the grower Sea Island Savory Herbs so we'll see. The leaves are big and really pretty with some hot pink in the veining and stems. The flower is not much to look at but fun to watch open.

The hibiscus are still showing off.

all that's left of the daylilies in the back beds.. boohoo I hate to see them finish up for the season.

Split Second Morning Glory

The Miss April Cockscomb that's not really the name of it but it is what I named the pink one because my girlfriend April and I were at a yard sale years ago and the home had the most beautiful Cockscombs I had ever seen. They get huge in height and the flower gets as wide as my hand .. I of course wanted some but wouldn't ask not Miss April she marched right up to the gentleman and started talking before I knew she had a bag full so in honor of my very special fearless girlfriend this will always be the Miss April.. as for the white ones I have no idea where they came from. I did not plant them nor have I ever even seen white ones but I can tell ya I'm loving them and will be saving every seed.. I will share more pictures of these they still have a lot of growing yet to do..

Swamp Hibiscus these things are about 7 ft tall I have got to move them before next spring .

Week 1 ~ Summer in snapshots 2011

This summer Amber over at The Starfish Blog is having a party every Wednesday called Summer in snapshots 2011 .. When I read about it last week I knew immediately I wanted to join in. So here we go..
My first week of summer..

No one got in the pool.. hubby was sick, momma was sick and Cherry was worn out.. We love our little pool and are in it every evening it's our time together to chill out and leave our worries behind ...

The Split Second morning glories have finally started blooming. I have to say I am disappointed with them though the blooms are much smaller than I was expecting and don't really open up much.. do you see the heart shaped leaf and the heart in my swing ? I didn't till I uploaded the pictures..

Rain, Woohoo Rain We started getting some afternoon/ evening showers and the highs have been staying in the 90's instead of 100 plus.

Saturday morning we jumped on the scooter and took off to Glennville, Georgia which is where my daddy and the hubby's grandparents are buried. It's a little country town with lots of farm land and fishing ponds. They are known for growing them yummy sweet Vidalia onions we all love to eat. We stopped at Harry's Bar-B-Q for lunch then headed back to Savannah..
Riding the scooter is our new favorite thing to do, it makes you so much more aware of all the beauty around you. We are seeing things we had never noticed before and the smells ~ fresh cut fields, hay drying in the sun, honeysuckle, jasmine, cows, OK that wasn't so pleasant but it did make me notice the beautiful fields filled with horses, cows, and goats ... Now if I could just figure out how to take pictures while zipping down the road.. We did about 170 mile round trip and the beehind was feeling every mile of it by the time we got home..lol

holy smack a roo I couldn't tell you the last time I slept this late

isn't she lovely .... made from love in my best Steve Wonder voice ! and oh so tasty

and of course we have to get in a little napping during the summertime..

Summer always goes by too quick it will be fun to have pictures to look back on even those simple we really did nothing kinda day's.. Come checkout the party better yet get out your camera start taking pictures and join us next week ..

I'm looking for some shade around here and a good book to just sit and do or think about nothing. I have had Miss Lois in the hospital for 4 long days and my hubby home sick for 3. It has been in the triple digits for what feels like forever. We have had no rain and with me being gone my poor gardens are parched.. it feels like a Savannah August instead of the first week of summer .... UGGG.... OK I'm done complaining ~ Miss Lois and the hubby are both going to be fine, the rains will come and October will be here soon..

A ride through the Savannah Wildlife Refuge, imposters and poor Mr. Turtle

We have a beautiful Wildlife refuge on the out skirts of Savannah that I have not been to in years. The hubby and I were out riding around on the new scooter which needs a name and ended up at the refuge. It was closed due to some work being done so we just rode along Highway 17 stopping every so often to breath in all the beauty and take pictures ..

The refuge was established April 6, 1927, Savannah NWR consists of over 29,000 acres of freshwater marshes, tidal rivers and creeks and bottomland hardwoods. The refuge is located in the heart of the Lowcountry, a band of low land, bordered on the west by sandhill ridges and on the east of the Atlantic Ocean, extending from Georgetown, South Carolina to St. Mary's, Georgia

as I was taking pictures I saw the birds but couldn't really see them well enough to tell what type or what color the birds were.

when I download/uploaded ( I don't know the difference ) I was surprised to see I had pictures of

The refuge is known for it's rich flora during the humid summer months, the region also supports a diverse wildlife population. The variety of birdlife within the Lowcountry is enhanced by its location on the Atlantic Flyway. During the winter months, thousands of ring-necked, teal, pintails, and as many as ten other species of ducks migrate into the area, joining resident wood ducks on the refuge. In the spring and fall, transient songbirds stop briefly on their journey to and from northern nesting grounds. I can't wait till the work is finished and the entire 4 mile trail is opened back up so we can go back... Now on to more pressing matters see this sweet face.

it is an imposter not a sweet little kitty. This is a wild child hissing, biting and scratching ... Look lady take your camera and get out of here I like hanging out in the rafters it's better than in the engine of your car which is where my siblings are..

more babies ahhhhhh crap.. Momma cat was dropped off by some care less jackass about 8 weeks ago, momma cat disappears, momma cat comes back without babies... For weeks we looked everywhere for kittens and just about the time I decide there is no kittens and make plans to take momma cat to the vet and have her fixed ~ 3 really cute ~ Dear Lord help me to not fall in love kittens show up.. I have been trying to handle them so we can find them homes but only one will even let me get close.

while finally cleaning out one of my small beds yesterday I found this poor turtle .. Bless his little heart it had dug a hole about 4" deep and I guess got wedged between the fence and the cross tie and couldn't get it's self out.
( for Jessica & Maddie small picture bottom left is his bones see his left leg bone Maddie ?? ) Oh GROSS aunt Cherry .. tee hee love ya see ya Sunday !

Andean Silver Leaf sage ~ The leaves are a powdery gray /silver and each one of these stems have a single flower stem that will have multiple tiers of almost black flowers. This plant has been one of my favorites for years. I lost it a few years back and was tickled pink to find it again. Sea Island Savory Herbs had it at the Expo this year.

I also bought this sweet little Ivy violet from them and have it sitting right outside the back door so I get to enjoy it coming and going.

I know I'm running a day late but I'm linking up with Fishtail Cottage for Cottage Flora Thursday cause I love Miss Tracie's blog and seeing all the beautiful things that are shared on Thursday's ..

Sometimes our hearts get tangled

This has been one of those weeks .. My emotions are all over the place.. Our family lost another beautiful soul to Cancer. I will always remember you as the good looking boy cousin who had the mean little bother that stole my barbie dolls.. Rest in peace cuz and big hugs to that mean little brother love ya!

Hey Lexi wanna catch a wave ? How do we do that Kaiden ? Well you got to get your legs just right and wait on the big one..

The hubby was off this week so we tried to pack in as much fun as we could.
We got to spend some time at Tybee with family and friends.. Nothing like getting me some sugar from my babies to mend my heart ..

We bought this and have been riding everywhere .. If you want to clear your mind .. Hop on . It has been so much fun no one can believe we have done this.. I told hubby a few years ago for our 5oth we should buy a bike.. Well hello ... Fifty is right around the corner for both of us so Happy Birthday to us !

Even Kaiden can't believe it ! Hey Kaiden my bike is bigger than yours ..

and tonight will be the most emotional night of all. Our beautiful nephew D.J is graduating high school.. D.J came into this world fighting. The doctors said he would never walk, talk or use his right hand.. Boy has he proved them wrong.. Through the grace of God, his awesome Momma and family, D.J has done all the things that they said he wouldn't plus so much more. You can see him dancing a jig here. Finding Beauty Friday's ~ Meet DJ ..

We still have 3 days left of hubby's mini stay-cation we plan on doing some more riding, lots of swimming, eating, hanging out with friends and taking naps on the porch..

A few of my favorite vendors at The Savannah Garden Expo 2011

Studier's Honeypot has now opened a store at 952 Go Cart Road in Guyton, Georgia (912) 772- 3876 .. I was ticked pink to find them at the expo. Local honey is one of those things I like to keep on hand and eat almost every day and I have to say this is one of the best I have found.. She is also selling beeswax candles and other items in her gift shop so go check it. Click Here to read a really great story that was done last year on the Studier family and how their honey business got started over 70 years ago.

There was all these adorable baby bunnies, chicks and hens for sale which was a first at the expo and I have to say them bunnies sure were cute.. When I was about 14 one morning on the way to school I found a baby rabbit. I sneaked him into my bedroom and kept him there for a few days before anyone found him ..lol he got to stay for a little bit then he was moved to the back yard and I'm not sure how this one bunny became multiple bunnies but before long we had bunnies everywhere ~ and yes I know about the birds & bees but it was one bunny ???? How does that happen ..lol

Then there was some really cool items from a few local artist you have to see all the beautiful things being made at www.sabenati.com ~ The creations of Sabenati are based on the unlikely beauty of found materials from the various natural settings in Savannah which are re-purposed into functional art I'm telling ya this is some awesome stuff..

there's my girlfriend Bobbie just a swingin .. kinda looks like she might have been a singin while swingin ..lol ...Joseph's Colours was back, they have a great line of metal garden products, steel trellises, plant stands, arbors, and lots of other cute items like the fairy's, butterflies and some really large fish.

We weren't sure who this vendor was or what they were selling but their booth sure looked pretty.

My favorite herb grower's is back Sea Island Savory Herbs was at the show this year and I was thrilled. They grow the best quality of plants that I have ever seen. They grow cultivars especially for our semi-tropical climate. Sea Island Savory Herbs is a small, family-run farm located on Johns Island, South Carolina for over 30 years with a wide variety of “home grown” plants, ranging from hard-to-find old-fashioned varieties of camellias to a multitude of culinary and ornamental herbs, vegetables, and edible flowers.

and I think I bought one of everything

well maybe not but I would have like too .. I will show off some of those pretty purchases soon. If you are headed to Charleston, Johns Island is before you get there coming from Savannah. John's Island is a pretty place. If you have ever tasted The Firefly brand of sweet tea vodka it came from the John's Island area. You can tour The Irvin House Vineyard Tara Gold is my favorite of their wines .. and a must while on the island is a meal at The Fat Hen awesome food and atmosphere it is where I first tasted the Firefly vodka in a lemon-aid yum yummy that I keep trying to recreate ... So head off to John's Island and visit Sea Island Savory Herbs buy a bunch of goodies and enjoy your day.

Farmers Organic if you are a novice or a well seasoned gardener you have to try my new best friend it is a soil conditioner made in Newton, Georgia here is a great article about it from Wilson Brothers Nursery I added it as a side dressing to my tomatoes about 2 weeks ago and holy cow what a difference I'm heading out this morning to add it to everything I can till the bag is empty..

Savannah Garden Expo 2011

This year the Savannah Garden Expo was moved to a new site Trustee's Gardens From 1733 to 1748 Trustees’ Garden was set aside from Savannah as an experimental farm where peaches, rice, cotton, grapes, flax, hemp, indigo, olives, and the mulberry trees essential to silk culture, were grown. Silk was an early promise, and the town’s largest structure was the filature where the cocoons were unwound into silk thread. Queen Caroline was clothed in Georgia silk. This years theme was "History Blooms in Savannah"
Savannah’s historic color palette needed to be used in the completion entries.. Stories of local historic colors range from social caste to voodoo lore; Some examples are: Haint Blue, Chatham Gold, Tabby White, Tomochichi Red, and Winter Marsh. So what do you think, do you see the History of Savannah in these window boxes and container gardens ?

Bobbie and I had a great day at the expo as much as I loved the new venue, set up and vendors that were there I was very disappointed with the size of the event. This was the expo's 11th year and I do think this year was the smallest. With only a handful of vendors compared to past years. Last year there was over 30 vendors with everything from lace hankies, County Cooperative Extension Service, Antiques, beautiful handcrafted items and and many plant vendors from several different states. Plus local clubs, landscape designers and nursery's for the past few years have created elaborate displays to go with each years theme. There was none of that this year which was very disappointing as it has been one of my favorite parts of the show.

I'm not sure why this years event was down sized so much but I do hope that next year it will be back to the event I have grown to love and can't wait to attend each spring.

my house is a wreak, my tomatoes are begging for attention, the grass needs mowing and I forget to eat and pee when I'm playing with your paint... oh and the hubby had to order out twice this week..lol... Who needs food when you have fabulous paint..

This little chest was Aubusson Blue last week which I loved but it seemed heavy. So she got repainted in Old White and she is so sweet and pretty now.. This is what I'm loving about the Chalk paint you can repaint till you are satisfied without any extra work. If you haven't tried it on metal or plastic yet try it! It is fabulous that little shell lamp above was brass with a white plastic sleeve. I painted them both with Versailles then waxed the brass it looks great.

I painted the lids with the Antibes Green then a coat of Graphite. Waxed, roughed them up a little to show some green, buffed and then wrote what flavor tea was inside with chalk .. too cute..

.... and here is my chair and stool yes that is a drop cover cloth covering the cushions till I can find the fabric I want .. and Miss Teresa if you would just bring your cute little self on down to Savannah you could have this finished for me..

I am madly in love with the stool I know the pictures aren't great but it's getting ready to rain so no good light in the house this morning .. the rattan looks plastic in this picture but it's the real deal.. oh and that lamp got a coat of Graphite.

and here we have my Peaches to Beaches dresser in Paris Grey which really was pretty but won't work in my house

so here she is in Versailles this color is a little confusing to me it goes on a pretty soft green then it turns light butter, but inside it looks almost a soft khaki. I still have to wax her and I am going to scuff her up a little bit I will show her to ya'll again once I get her inside and the mirror is attached. I haven't seen them together yet ..woohoo can't wait..

and here's a handy tip Bud Select bottles make great knob holders... Attach your hardware back to your knob drink a beer, paint, sat knob in bottle .. hey it works ! I don't drink beer so hubby had that pleasure while I did all the work..lol

opps almost forgot Savannah Granny I ordered out of Mississippi from Miss Virginia of The Southern Institute of Faux Finishing they were very helpful and Graphite is more grey than black but when you add a dark wax it tends to look black. Hope that helped..

playing with my newest colors of Annie Sloan chalk paint.

Antibes Green is my new favorite as you can see ..

I'm loving being able to use the paint to make big changes and little changes

like the lids to my Lillian Vernon canisters that I have had forever and still love.

my little desk is now perfect .. and I even used the paint to repaint the lampshade

I watered the paint down and it just flowed right on to the shade it was much easier than the first time when I used spray paint.

there's more changes on the way and more colors to play with.. Scandinavian Pink, Versailles, and Graphite are all out back calling my name but, I need to wax that chair and stool before I can move on. So like I said if your looking for me I'm out back playing..

A little more of our beautiful Botanical gardens here in Savannah

Today I am showing off some more of what is in bloom right now at the Savannah Area Council of Garden Clubs Botanical Garden on Eisenhower Drive. This weekend is their First Rose Festival and the gardens couldn't be any prettier than they are right now.

If you have never been to the gardens stop by this weekend they will be selling roses all weekend long. Hospice Savannah is also participate throughout the three-day show with botanical photography by Margaret Brennan and Lewis Strickland which will be on display in the Hospice’s art gallery. Friday evening rose martinis will be served in the Botanical Garden’s Reinhard House and in the living room of Hospice Savannah.

and our very own Savannah Granny will also be there some through out the weekend so if you get the chance to stop by be sure to tell her hello..

Hi everyone hope ya'll had a wonderful Easter weekend ours was nice. Being with family is always a blessing, other than eating to much.... Chicken & dumplings and my niece Dani's Strawberry trifle which was really yummy can make a women hurt herself.

We hunted eggs and yes Gigi almost hurt someone when she saw that egg in her Amaryllis

We threw the eggs in our big basket really quick so we could hurry and find more..

We hunted really hard in Gigi's flower beds... I'm sure this is where the Easter bunny put all them pretty eggs.

One of a Kind treasures in Springfield, GA

Miss Lois and I were on the way up to Rahn's greenhouses and instead of taking the bypass we went into downtown Springfield where we found a cute little shop filled with some great pieces. We met the lovely Miss Cecile Baker the shops owner along with her daughter Vicki who is married to a handy fellow name Richie..

the shop is filled with antiques, new, used furniture and some great vintage pieces .

and handmade pieces made by Richie.. Richie builds custom furniture everything from Shabby chic to farm house beautiful you can see more of his fabulous work on his web site The Sawdust Shack.. isn't that the cutest name !

Miss Lois bought doll's .. She is a member of the Savannah Doll Club and loves to collect and make all types of Porcelain dolls these struck her fancy and had to come home with us. If you are anywhere near Springfield go checkout One of a Kind I promise you will not be disappointed.

which had some great items also and then just a little ways down the street is another shop that we didn't get to plunder though which just means we will have to head on back up soon to check it out and visit with Miss Cecile again.. Annie Sloan's chalk paint = love

Hi everybody I have been running around having myself a good time.. I got to spend Friday with one of my Best friend's Bobbie we spent the day downtown at the Savannah Garden Exposition it was a beautiful day. We had lunch at the world famous Pirates House. I ate fried green tomato's and a pimento cheese covered hamburger.. it was fab could eat another one right now..lol . We shopped and took in a lecture about Savannah's horticultural heritage. I'll share pictures later of the EXPO.. I got to spend Saturday with a new friend Miss Belinda we took off to Hilton Head looking for treasures and we found loads of great shops. April and Beth I can't wait to take ya'll over. Sunday was spent painting and planting double fun..

Chalk paint ~
I have had gobs of people stopping by to see what I have done with my Annie Sloan chalk paint so here goes .. No big whooping WOW 's like Miss Perfectly Imperfect, Miss Mustard Seeds or all the other fabulous bloggers out there playing with Miss Annie Sloan's Chalk paint.

The day I got my paint I jumped on this rattan desk I picked up a couple of years ago at the Jr. League thrift sale.. Having never painted furniture before or worked with wax I was a little apprehensive about how to do it even though this piece isn't anything of value it is a piece I really like and really wanted to paint.

Things didn't go as smooth as I was hoping.. I slapped the paint on fell madly in love .. 45 minutes later I had a crackled top ... A crackled finish wasn't what I was going for so I contacted Miss Virginia at Southern Institute of Faux Finishing who contacted Miss Annie herself only to find out no one knew why this happened.. The next day when I looked at the top again which is the only part that cracked I could see dark oily spots coming through the paint.. I had used Old English Spot cover on the top of this desk a while back and I am positive that is what was coming through the paint.. I sanded the top down repainted it only to have it happen again. Hell bent and determined to make this paint be all that I had dreamed it would be I sanded it again waxed it and then a few days later I repainted it. It turned out perfect the wax became like a sealer no more cracks or oily spots even after a week. Now my only problem is I really want it to be a bright lime green..lol So I am now awaiting my next order of Chalk paint from Mississippi and will hopefully have this piece repainted and back in our bedroom next week..

in the meantime here is a very heavy little piece I found this weekend at the Vintage Market in Bluffton, South Carolina time I saw it I knew I had to have it.

I painted it with Aubusson Blue and waxed it with Rustic wax even the metal handles. I was truly surprised at how well it took over the shiny metal.. I now have visions of a million things to paint..

here she is finished and in the living room.. I am madly, madly, madly in love with Annie Sloan's Chalk paint I see us spending a lot of time playing together ...

I also love The Hannant's Rustic Wax I used it on the coffee table hubby built me last week it made the table feel very soft and smooth and checkout my new $20.00 rag rug I picked up on Hilton Head Saturday it looks brand new. I also picked up the little pillow.

another side table waiting on her Annie transformation, a big mirror for $2.00 a cute little floral backpack for 2.00 .. The lamp I found here in town I love the shade it has a soft floral pattern on it. It has been a wonderful weekend I hope each of you had a great one too..

I know there is a lot of talk right now about the chalk paint If I could offer anything about chalk paint that I didn't know before hand it would be.. Order the paint chart first with maybe a basic color to play with. I ordered a wonderful kit that included paint brushes, wax brushes, 2 cans of paint, waxes, one of Annie's books and the hand painted color chart if I had not been so impatient and ordered the chart first I would have chosen different paint colors. All of the paint colors are beautiful but not all of the colors are going to work for you .. like I ordered Paris grey sure that it would be perfect but once I got it, it really doesn't work for me . No one has paid me or given me anything this is just my two cents worth on using the paint and as soon as my next order gets here which is ~ Astibes Green, Scandinavian Pink, Versailles and Graphite I will be sharing more of my two cents so ya'll come back now ya hear...

Georgia Southern Gardens Spring 2011 Tour

Miss Lois and I took off up to Statesboro for the Spring plant sale at the Georgia Southern Botanical Gardens the gardens were in their full spring glory.

Georgia Southern Botanical Garden is centered on an early 20th century farmstead. Owned by Dan and Catharine Bland, only the core of their original property remains. Mr. Dan, as he was affectionately known, was an amateur naturalist and botanist with a deep appreciation for the native plants of the land he loved so much. Mr. Dan and Miss Catharine lived and farmed here from 1916 when they married until late in their lives. They grew what they needed to live on and grew cotton and raised cows, chickens, and hogs for their own use and to sell. In 1985, Mr. Dan willed the remaining 6.5 acres to Georgia Southern College Foundation to be used as a botanical garden. you can read more about the Blands and the Gardens history here.

it's beautiful year around at the gardens but springtime ~ fabulous ~ but then when the magnolia's are in bloom is pretty special too.

The plant sale offers lots of native plants which is why I love going

this tree was magnificent..I know mighty big word for a little tree but it was beautiful. I have never even heard of a Two winged Silverbell they didn't have any for sale but if they ever do I will be all over it... lol.

New this year was the one room Oak Grove School it was moved to the gardens at the end of 2010. It was originally in Claxton, Georgia. Ms. Jan Anderson had the school moved to her property to save it till it could lovingly be restored and preserved at the gardens.

The real McCoy, Annie Sloan Chalk paint and daddy

Hey ya'll hope everyone had a great weekend lookie what I found this weekend

We have been cleaning out my daddy's old shop and these were buried in a corner covered in dirt .. They are McCoy flower pots 6 of them. The white ones haven't held up well but the others are perfect. They have been in his shop since my mother closed her florist in downtown Savannah over 35 years ago. The McCoy salesman would come around about once a month with a truck load of pottery. I remember begging momma to buy these I thought they were beautiful. That was long before McCoy became a collectors item. I think they are just as beautiful today as they were all those years ago.

My Annie Sloan Chalk Paint has arrived and I can't wait to get to painting. I'm just not sure what I want to paint first.. Thank you so much to Miss Virginia of The Southern Institute of Faux Finishing and her staff for being so helpful.

There is so many beautiful colors.. The color chart is hand painted ~ You can't get any better than that for color matching ..

As I was wondering around Saturday in my daddy's garden I found this pot of Confederate Jasmine. Tears welled up in my eyes immediately he had potted this up in the fall for me from cuttings off his gorgeous vines. Even though I have lots of jasmine myself he thought I needed more. Every year when the jasmine started to bloom he would call and let me know. I always made a point to stop by, we would sit in the swing talk about nothing while taking in all of that sweet, sweet jasmine fragrance .. Daddy your jasmine is full of buds and will be filling the air really soon with it's beautiful scents and I will be sitting in your swing thinking of you, missing you and trying to figure out where to plant another jasmine.. Sending kisses to heaven share them with bubba missing you both so much ..

and I'm loving driving in and out of our driveway right now cause it is

gorgeous ..

the Lady Banksia roses have been prettier this year than they have been in a long time and they smell fabulous.. I have been trying to spend as much time as possible outside enjoying them before they fade away.

The bridal wreath spirea's have also been beautiful actually every blooming thing around has been awesome this spring .

the white wisteria and snowball viburnums were loaded.. The weather here has been down right hot till this morning.. Call me a wimp it's 50 degrees I have the heater going and a pot of chilli on the stove ..

Georgia's longest yardsale Peaches to Beaches weekend

Here's a few more ( OK a lot more ) pictures from mine and Beth's yard sale weekend including the fun ladies we met and some of the goodies we found..

don't you just love homemade jam's, jellies and relishes. Beth was oohing and aaaahing about Mayhaw jelly which I had never tasted. Mayhaw Jelly is a rare and unique southern treat so I'm told. Mayhaw berries are native to South Georgia swampy areas. Well guess what she found and shared and now I'm totally hooked .. Thank you girlfriend I have eaten more biscuits in 2 weeks than I have in 2 years ..it's yuuuuuuuummmmmmmy

We met Miss Fancy Cat Heirloom Tomatoes of Marshallville, Ga where I was able to pick up some great plants including a few that I had never heard of like an Italian tree which is said to have vines that can grow up to 15-feet with enormous meaty 1-2 pound, 4-5-inch, red tomatoes with superior sweet flavor.. Oh yeah my mouth is watering just thinking about a just picked still warm from the sun .. tomato sandwich... and a big thank you to the lovely lady in Perry that allowed me to have the last of a few variety's since we were from out of town.

After we left Perry we headed south where we got to met the lovely Miss May Tucker who asked us not to put her on Facebook ..lol She was so sweet we could have talked with her all afternoon she and a few others put together a shop just for the Peaches to Beaches weekend and it was stacked full of goodies..

You can see all of her treasure at the McRae flea market booth #13 .. Everywhere we went Blue Ball jars were selling for $8 - $10 She was selling hers for $2 dollars .. stop by and see her if you are in the area ..

aren't these babies cute .. Miss Daphne Lewis is the owner of Chalo Sulky She and her babies were out enjoying all the fun. Beth and I sure could have used these babies a few time before we finished shopping ..lol

and now lookie lookie at what I found . I paid $60.00 for her... She is so pretty I can't wait to get her spruced up and moved into the house.

and how about this great birdhouse it was perfect on it's own but after we sat it on the post I remembered those wrought iron gingerbread pieces I found back in October and had hubby attach them now it's GORGEOUS !!!

got a great deal on the 2 stools a total of $5 dollars for both, the enamel pot $4.00 and how cute is the sign I picked up for the hubby.. Think I will hang it on the gate maybe it will help scare solicitors away..lol

some great baskets a pretty green bowl that matches a pitcher that I already had that belonged to the hubby's grandmother. Picture frames, more birdhouses, oyster shells and don't forget that $5.00 box of huge pine cones.. We had such a wonderful time. Beth found some great treasures also my poor Tahoe was packed there was so many yard sales Saturday that it took us 8 hours to go 70 miles I kid you not there was no way to see it all .. Peaches to Beaches ROCKS

Savannah could not have paid for prettier weather this past week. It has been perfect for all the St. Patrick's festivities, hanging out at Tybee or playing in the yard which is what I have been doing and where I am headed... So many things are in full bloom and popping up it feels like spring time .. WAIT.... it is springtime woohoo it's the first day of spring and what a beautiful spring morning it is .. Sure hope spring has sprung where you are and you can get out and enjoy yourselves.

We did it ! Over 275 miles of yard sale bliss

and we can't wait till Peaches to Beaches weekend 2012 to do it all over again.

This was at the end of our trip .. Can you tell we are tired .. Oh yeah it shows ..

We Drove. We Stopped. We Shopped.. and We had a blast..
Friday morning started out with a Fried Chicken liver biscuit from a Service station in Sterling, Georgia along with a Mocha Latte. Now if that don't get you in the mood for a road trip nothing will. There was miles of yard sales, some had good junk and some just had junk, junk .. With nothing but time on our hands Beth & I got to go through it all in search of those special treasures ..

The road was great, the traffic was not bad at all and we met so many wonderful people.

One of our favorite finds was a wonderful couple in Jesup that made birdhouses. We both bought from them and even talked about going back by on the way home but didn't make it.

and yes I parked right smack dab in front of this sign and I think Beth even had to maybe mention that it was there before I realized what it said..lol and after a whole lot of giggling we ran into...

My first official purchase was a big box of giant pine cones that Beth and I split. We're off to a great start chicken livers & pine cones.. but wait we still have Saturday to share ..

We are off like bees in the spring out searching for the sweetest deals

somewhere between Savannah and Perry, Georgia .. It's " Peaches to Beaches weekend " The longest yard sale in Georgia. The weather is going to be perfect. The car is packed with bungee/ straps, tape measure, blankets, maps, list, water, chocolate, wine and we are off to have a fun filled whooping good time .. Hope to have lots of pictures to share next week..
